North Country folk art is surprisingly diverse. Folk Artists are often available for classroom visits.

This online library has been created by Traditional Arts in Upstate New York [TAUNY] as an educational resource for folklore students of all ages. We frequently work with local school and college faculty and students, including those who are home-schooled, to assist with oral history interviews or documenting family and community traditions.

While TAUNY plans eventually to have a folk arts educator on staff who will work directly with local teachers and community groups-like Girl Scouts or 4-H clubs-we want to help you now in any ways we can to incorporate approaches to a better understanding and appreciation of local culture and traditional arts into your education planning.

Visit Us

We welcome class and other group visits to the TAUNY Gallery to see and hear many examples of local folk culture in our changing exhibits and in our permanent gallery devoted to master traditional artists and their arts from our region. Please call ahead to make arrangements for a tour.
